The market in cosmetics has tried to become environmentally friendly over the last few years, with things being tested with animals and CFC filled products being reduced significantly. However, there are still a lot of brands that should be avoided.

The key factors when purchasing a cosmetic product, apart from it being organic or natural, are animal testing and cruelty, using rare species as ingredients and too much packaging. Where possible when buying cosmetics or toiletries following this guide:

• Ensure the company you are buying off has ethical responsibility towards it's operations and workers
• Minimal packaging
• Make sure it's not tested on animals
• Ensure the cosmetics contain natural, organic or non-toxic products

To minimise the risk of potentially harmful chemicals, it may be wise to choose organic and natural cosmetics that are plant based and are certified organic.
